Recapping: A Weekend in Fairfield…

Happy Monday Friends!

This 4th of July weekend Zach and I traveled down to Connecticut to celebrate the holiday with his lovely family and friends.  In preparation for the festivities I tackled some red velvet cake balls that taste a whole lot better than they look…

Red Velvet Cake Balls90 degree temperatures in the kitchen and my first time using colored melting chocolate were NOT my friend.  I was sort of bummed about how they turned out but everyone that ate them loved them! Zach’s brother kept telling me he ate a couple for breakfast each morning 😉

We were also trusted with the incredibly important task of whipping up some rice krispie treats for the weekend… Zach and I

I attempted these rice krispie “S’mores” treats from Beyond Frosting that were totally delicious!

Rice Krispie S'Mores

The town’s fireworks are typically on the fourth but due to some impending rain storms they got pushed back to Saturday which ended up being great as we were to just hang out and watch some World Cup. Zach’s sister in law is from Brazil so we of course had to root for the home team with her! I even made a spinach and artichoke dip that was so yummy… recipe to come!

Snack TableWhen Brazil crashes America’s day 😉

4th OutfitStill rockin’ that Patriot Swag though

Saturday was deemed take two of the 4th of July so we packed up and headed down for a great day at the beach before the fireworks. We also got to celebrate John and Carolina’s 1st wedding anniversary! I wish you guys could have been at their beautiful backyard wedding, it was absolutely one of the highlights (short of my own best friend’s wedding) of last summer!

BeachWho doesn’t love an intense game of Yahtzee?

On Sunday Zach and I said farewell to Fairfield and hit the road with two VERY important stops in mind. First up was mine…

NoRa's CupcakesMy first trip to NoRA’s Cupcake Company!!!

For those of you who know me, you know I’m obsessed with cupcakes. My original blog was intended to be a way to test out recipes and share new ideas with friends and family. One day I’ll show you guys the 150 cupcake “mountain” display for my dad’s retirement party but that deserves it’s own post.

Anyway, NoRA has been on my list since I saw it on a 50 cupcakes to try in 50 states list and needless to say I HAD to make the detour on our way back to Vermont. The cupcakes almost stood up to the test of an AC-less car, but instead they melted onto themselves which was not as disastrous as it sounds after they sit in the fridge for an hour or so. Meghan and I split a Chocolate Chip Cheesecake one last night and holy shit was it good, even had graham cracker crust! I’ve got 3 more at the apartment right now and I’m basically salivating.

Next stop was Zach’s pick of Cabela’s where he so very easily could have cried tears of joy over his new fishing gear. Kid in a candy store times a thousand, really.

When we arrived back in Vermont we met up with the family to say goodbye to Meghan who is on her way back to Lexington for her senior year of college!

Brother and MegsThis is a blurry photo of my Brother and Meghan but it was necessary as Megs is not a hugger.

We also had a bonfire to celebrate her last night with a few friends down at the beach…

BonfireShe does not enjoy her photo taken either…

It was so great having her around for the month, she is literally the best roommate ever. I can’t wait to see what great things she does after college, good luck baby sis 🙂

Now back to that Monday grind!

Liebster Award… you shouldn’t have!

I got nominated for an award you guys! What! What!

I’ve seen the Liebster award floating around blog land for quite some time now and now that I’ve got myself a blog I was so excited to find out Maddy from Media Junkie Jungle nominated me. Maddy has a lovely blog with GREAT style! Definitely check it out!

Liebster Award

Prior to this my awards have been,

Junior Class Spirit Night “Best Performance” (my one shining moment in theater)

Senior Class Best Participant (short for you were not bad at sports but you were not good either)

Class Clown

Most Outgoing (who, me?)

Welcome to the trophy case Liebster award 😉

Anyway, the Liebster award is essentially an award for bloggers who love bloggers. It is a great way to recognize the blogs that you love but also check out some new ones!

The rules:

-Each nominee must link back the person who nominated them.
-Answer the 11 questions given to you by the nominator.
-Nominate 11 other bloggers for this award who have less than 200 followers.
-Create 11 questions for your nominees to answer.
-Let the nominees know that they have been nominated by going to their blog and notifying them

Step 2:

1. If you could live anywhere in the world, where would that be?

New Zealand… I’ve never been but it is on the top of my list. I would also own a pet sheep named George which I believe would be a package deal on moving to New Zealand.

2. Pick a store where you would shop if you had no spending limit

Kate Spade has been killin’ it for me lately! I’d be in dress heaven.

3. Would you rather drink your least your favorite drink or eat your least favorite food for the rest of your life?

I drink everything way too fast (sometimes proves to be a problem if there is alcohol involved) so I’d definitely choose to drink my least favorite drink- I’d get that grossness down as fast as possible.

4. Favorite Genre of Music?

I love all sorts of music (stereotype to the max) but I’d have to say I consistently love British Indie/Rock Bands. Though I can get down on some hip hop and rap NO PROBLEM.

5. Fame or Fortune?

I guess I would say fortune? If I had money I could buy those Kate Spade dresses…

6. What do you think makes a blog great?

I think knowing who your audience is and being relatable make for a great blog. Whether you have a fitness blog with tips and tricks or a fashion blog with photos of beautiful outfits the ability to have your personality shine through is a great quality. I think it is so fun to feel like you know them and get to go on an adventure with them

7. What is your biggest goal right now?
I have a couple in the works right now, first off finishing my degree and secondly I’d love to make this little bloggity blog a “thing”

8. If you could go to any time period which would it be and why?
1920’s I’d make an excellent 1920’s lady.

9. How would you explain your blog in 10 words or less?
Super random, sometimes witty and always authentically me.

10. What is your favorite holiday?
I love 4th of July! Growing up we always had a massive family pool party (I’m talking hundreds- we roll deep in the Reen family) and it was always such a great time to have everyone get together.

11. What is your favorite thing to write about?
Vermont. I took it for granted growing up and swore I’d never come back, now that I live here and have this (I think) pretty awesome life it’s been so fun to get to share the different events, restaurants, and classes around the state. Oh and one day I’m going to post an outfit that someone would actually want to wear- BIG DREAMS 😉

Step 3:

I have nominated the following lovely blogs…

Step 4:

My questions…

1. If you could trade places with one person for a day who would it be?

2. Who is your favorite athlete?

3. What made you decide to start a blog in the first place?

4. What is a tv show that you wish would never end?

5. What is the best meal you’ve ever had?

6. If you could get a one way ticket to anywhere in the world, where would it be?

7. Do you have any embarrassing habits?

8. What is your favorite form of exercise?

9. Would you rather live in the mountains for the rest of your life or by the beach?

10. What is your adult beverage of choice?

11. Where would you like to see your blog in one year?

Thanks again, Maddy!

Interweb Loves!

Today I thought I’d share some of my favorite posts from across the social media spectrum… so here it goes!

Pinterest

Patriotic Cake PopsI found these gorgeous things while pinning around yesterday from Bee in Our Bonnet and let’s just say that the need I feel to make them is intense! I’m already coming up with a plan in my head to bust them out for the weekend’s festivities!

Patriotic OutfitI will say it now and I will say it again I LOVE 4th of July fashion… I found this while pinning via Ash N’ Fashn and thought it was an awesome outfit, just the right amount of ‘Merica and still classic BBQ style!

Twitter

I don’t do twitter well, but I let twitter tell me things about my favorite athletes and celebrities.

Love me some Anna Kendrick, she’s a boss.

Keegan (fellow Vermonter) Bradley… overall sports fan… seems like a real person that happens to be an amazing golf player. Of course I love to follow him!

Instagram

I love Instagram! This is my social media kryptonite (had to google that word but I did get it right) and I am a classic overposter. I am terrible about “liking” and even worse at “commenting” but don’t think I didn’t see it, because I absolutely did!

Jermaine Jones

JermaineJunior

Jermaine Jones is definitely leaving it all on the field for the US this World Cup and I couldn’t be more excited to watch him later today!

Life with Emily

enh410

Emily from Life with Emily posts some GORGEOUS photos of even better outfits!

(I did screen shot these… for some reason I couldn’t get them to embed correctly… rookie blogger problems)

Blog World

I could literally spend all day talking about all of the blogs and posts I love but I will save it to just this one workout post that I completed in the gym below my office today.

500 Calorie WorkoutI found this on Our Three Peas and thought it’d be the perfect lunch time sweat… and it certainly was!

Gym SelfiePost work out locker room selfie… cause if you didn’t take a picture you obviously didn’t work out… and if you aren’t making a stupid face your name is obviously not Kari.

That’s all for now kids, I’ve gotta finish up some work before I can go root on our boys! #ibelieve
