Fun Facts Friday: Birthday Weekend Edition

Well hello there!

3 posts in 3 days? Quite the jump back in to blogging and it probably won’t happen often but I’m just so excited. This Sunday I turn the big 26 so I thought I’d share 5 fun things I’m looking forward to this birthday weekend of mine.

  1. Being a Mascot.

IMG_5618

I have definitely mentioned this before on the blog but if it wasn’t clear enough then, let’s just make it clear that I want to be a mascot so very badly. Last year a few friends at Hotel Vermont pulled some strings to get me into their Penguin costume for a few minutes on my birthday. This year, they asked me TO BE THE FREAKING PENGUIN one of the nights at their Ice Bar event. So yeah, don’t mind me just about to have the time of my life.

2. Penguin Plunging for an amazing cause.

1430

Saturday morning a few of my co-workers and I are jumping into chilly Lake Champlain to raise money for Special Olympics Vermont. I have a few close friends who have worked closely with this organization and I have many more who have taken the plunge so I’m honored to be a part of it this year. I’ve never done a penguin/polar plunge before so I’m a little nervous but I know it’ll be a blast!

3. Attending Hotel Vermont’s 4th Annual Ice Bar.

IMG_2193

This will be my 3rd time attending one of my favorite events of the year. Ice Bar is a great combination of sampling local foods, beer & cocktails all while listening to fun music and checking out amazing ice sculptures. Most importantly it’s the perfect event to celebrate a birthday with some great friends 🙂

4. A Casual Sunday Morning.

IMG_2179

I can’t wait for a relaxing Sunday morning. I’ll be irrationally happy to stay in bed and watch Netflix in our Penguin (keeping on trend) PJs til we head to lunch.

5. Super Bowl!!!

IMG_6810

I love being a Super Bowl baby, you get an automatic excuse to overeat junk food (forget yesterday’s post cough cough) and hang with all of your buddies watching football. What could be better? This year we are going to have a pretty small gathering which will be nice (and easy to clean up after). I’m so pumped to see my Tennessee Volunteer Peyton and the insane Broncos D take on superstar Cam and the Panthers offense. Peyton winning and then instantly retiring (come on bro don’t make me sit through another season terrified of you breaking in half) that would be the best outcome. Though I wouldn’t be too upset seeing Carolina take it, they’ve played Golden State good this season!

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend 🙂

Fun Facts Friday: May 15th

Aloha Friends!

Let us get to the fun facts shall we??

1. I ran my first 5K of the year last night!

Vermont Corporate Cup Challenge 5K

I ran with some coworkers in the Vermont State Corporate Cup Challenge and it went pretty well actually! I was expecting to run it around 37 minutes and came in at 35:30 final time which I was veryyyyy happy with given that I just recently started pounding the pavement again. The weather was perfect, a little chilly at the start but once we got going I was happy to have a cool breeze. There were about 4000 runners/walkers that participated which meant for quite a bit of congestion throughout downtown Montpelier. My goals were to just keep good form, use my yoga breathing and not stop to walk, thankfully I hit all of them!

2. I met my first blogger friend in real life!

The lovely Rachel of the blog Darlin’ Rae aka the other badass Vermont blogger and I knew we would be running in the Corporate Cup but weren’t sure we’d be able to meet up before it given the craziness of the event. As luck would have it I had just taken a spot in line at the start and noticed a bright and shiny new pair of birthday sneakers that I recognized from her blog (cause I’m a creeper and remember that kind of stuff). We got to chat a bit and give our well wishes for the race, she is such a sweetheart! If you haven’t checked out her blog before I don’t know what you are waiting for!

3. I tried an awesome new beer that I must find more of!

Foley Brother's Brewing

After the race we headed to The Reservoir in Waterbury for a little post run food & drink. I decided to try the Foley Brother’s Brewing “Fair Maiden” double IPA and was not disappointed. It was perfectly hoppy but smooth and probably way too easy drinking for it’s own good. If you have a chance to try it out I highly recommend it.

4. My dress for baby sister’s graduation came!

Loft Scallop Dress

The Loft was having a sale online a few weeks back and I snagged this awesome dress marked down from $89 to $33! I’m really digging this color for summer and it surprisingly goes with my current pale complexion though I hope a few rounds of self tanner will give it a little more pop next week 😉

5. Grey’s Anatomy Though?!?

Grey's Anatomy

All the feels for this stupid television show that I’ve never missed an episode of 11 years running.

Judge me as you feel necessary!

Have you ever met a blogger friend in person?

Are you part of the terrible television show watching club?

Fun Facts Friday!

Hello there friends! Let’s get right down to it, shall we?

1. You need to stop what you are doing and follow Broad Street Dough Co. on Instagram.

Broad Street Dough Co. Instagram

How incredible does this thing look? I literally salivate every day they post a picture. I am actively searching for reasons to get to New Jersey purely because I need to get to this doughnut shop. It’s becoming an obsession.

 2. My fitbit is starting to grow on me.

Fitbit Flex

My sister got me a fitbit for Christmas and I’ve basically been wearing it every day since. I’ve been learning how to use it and while I’m still struggling with the sleep function (they lie when they say just tap quickly) but otherwise I’m a big fan. I like being able to track my food and exercised that aren’t picked up by it (i.e. those yoga classes). So yeah so far so good!

3. This Sole Society stripe weekender bag needs to be mine.

DAPHNEE_BLACK_WHITE_0057

I’ve been looking for the perfect weekender bag and I’ve had my eye on this one for quite some time now. I love black and white stripes plus the size would be perfect for quick trips. Bonus it’s less than $65!

4. This etsy dinosaur ring is amazing.

Etsy Dinosaur Sterling Silver Ring

I mean can you imagine “oh hey nice dinosaur ring” as a compliment? It would be the best compliment I’ve ever received.

5. These Salted Caramel Brownie Bites from Inside Bru Crew Life could be the best thing that’s ever come out of the food blogger world.

Salted-Caramel-Brownie-Bites-title-1-2

No explanation needed.

Now I must go pack up my things for our little road trip, have a happy weekend everyone! 🙂

Fun Facts Friday!

So happy it’s Friday! So ready for the weekend 🙂

1. “Yes Please” to Amy Poehler’s new book.

Amy Poehler "Yes Please"

This book is everything I thought it would be. Witty, honest and endearing it completely shows her personality for better or for worse. I’m such a big Amy Poehler fan and getting to know how she got to the place she is with such funny and random stories strung throughout has made me love her even more. The only thing I will say that is a bit weird is how much she name drops, I can’t tell if she’s over doing it just to be funny or if she told everyone and their mother that she would mention them because even for this celebrity obsessed girl, it’s a bit much!

2. DIY Instagram Coasters are super fun to give as presents but you should start them a week before giving them to the person not a day.

Meg DIY Coaster

I found the easiest tutorial ever on Living Your Creative to make some coasters and while it was so simple and they came out so well I made the mistake of trying to do 24 of them the night before Christmas. Fail. I must have missed the part in the directions that said they need to be sprayed and set with acrylic like a week after the modge podge is put on. OH well I did bring them along with me to show everyone what they would be getting when I complete them and so far the reviews are all positive. I’m actually really happy with how they came out. The one above is my little sister Meghan while she was studying abroad in Greece. How cool is she??

3. I’m the proud owner of Hunter Boots.

Hunter Boots

As all of you know the weather has been an absolute disaster in these parts lately but thankfully for me the boy and I wandered out Tuesday night to grab my much anticipated Christmas present. We went into Dear Lucy, one of the most adorable little shoe stores on Church Street and I immediately went in for the kill on some original tall matte black Hunter Boots. Add in the welly boot socks they are the perfect warmth for these arctic temperatures outside. Safe to say, I’m in love with this club.

4. I won something at Cyclepath’s Anniversary Party!

 Cyclepath Anniversary Party

Last month Maria and I hit up the one year anniversary party for the spin studio and we both ended up winning prizes. I’m not entirely sure what I won but it’s exciting regardless. Tonight we are going to check out a class called “Club Sweat” which is described as a nightclub themed spin class. I’m going to have to find something that glows in the dark… I’m so excited.

5. I’m going to watch this season of the Bachelor.

I haven’t seen any since I was maybe in my freshman year of college but I’m going to try again with this season. Why? Not sure but I think it’s going to be a great decision.

Fun Facts Friday

Hola friendly people!

Let’s get down to business shall we??

1. Being stranded while holiday traveling makes for a great story.

Long Trail in Springfield, VTWe set out for CT on Wednesday afternoon and made it to Springfield, VT before a series of unfortunate events (seeing 6.5 cars off the road, finally getting stuck ourselves and then miraculously getting pulled out by a cop) forced us to grab a room at the Holiday Inn Express. Fortunately for us they had one last room, unfortunately for us it had one king bed but a massive jacuzzi tub for us three adults to fight over. Quite honestly it could have had only a sleeper sofa and we would have been happy to just be off the roads. We made the best of it with copious amounts of Long Trail Ale and gaming… because that’s what adults do 😉

2. I had a glorious Thanksgiving weekend once we actually got to Connecticut 🙂

Zach and I Thanksgiving

PictionaryWe ate food, we drank wine, we had a killer game of Pictionary (after Bob moved off the board) that the boys definitely should have lost and we ate more food. We also played a ton of Heads Up! (a game EVERYONE needs to download now if you haven’t already). I managed to get a bunch of Christmas shopping done plus brand new coat from Lord & Taylor for only $63.00!! We also had an incredible Italian meal at Biagio Osteria which unfortunately for you guys all of the photos taken were too blurry to be put up.

It’s always tough to be so far away from my family over the holidays but I’m so fortunate to have Zach’s family welcome me into theirs 🙂

3. I am almost done with all of my Christmas shopping!

For Christmas everyone is getting my opinion

I have a terrible history of being an extreme last minute gift buyer (and broke) so this year I decided to start early and start online. I’ve never been much of an online shopper but armed with a very detailed list for each person, my paypal account and a junk email address I set out before Thanksgiving to get the party started. I still have a few people on the list but the major items have all been purchased and I can’t wait to see their faces 🙂

4. I have an unhealthy obsession with the Romanovs.

My NightstandI’m currently re-reading The Last Days of the Romanovs by Helen Rappaport in preparation for her new book about the Romanov sisters. There is just something about this incredibly sad time, the strength of a family and all of the pieces of the puzzle that got them where they ended up that I find fascinating. My collection of Romanov and Tsar related books is a little out of hand but I love it.

5. I signed up for a monthly yoga membership at Sangha Studio!!!

Sangha Studio

I consider it a Christmas present to myself! So far I’ve been to two classes this week and I’m planning on making the third tomorrow afternoon. The class times are flexible enough to fit perfectly into my crazy schedule and so far the two instructors I’ve taken a class with have been so sweet and helpful. I know I’ve been saying for awhile now how much I’d like to practice more regularly and I’m so happy I finally got a membership. Much more to come on this place 🙂

I also began PT this week and I’m sincerely hoping that both PT & yoga combined will help me go from an 87 year old’s lower back issues to a 25 year old’s!

Happy Weekending Everyone!

How is your Christmas shopping coming?

Have you played Heads Up!???

Fun Facts Friday

1. Ski season is here and liftopia is where it’s at.

Sugarbush Lift TicketSnow has been dusting and I am so ready to hit the mountains. If you haven’t already used liftopia it’s an awesome site for getting discounted lift tickets all across the country. I used it a few times last season and this year I’m super excited to check out some mountains I haven’t snowboarded at yet, I’m looking at you Killington!

2. 15 minute Greek pasta salad does wonders for week night dinners.

Greek Pasta SaladI pinned this awhile ago from Tasty Kitchen and found a long day at work mixed with having no desire to go to the grocery store was the perfect excuse to test it out. I used my favorite Maple Grove Farms of Vermont dressing and it crushed. It was literally so simple but it really hit the spot. It made sooooo much pasta salad (you have been warned) but I didn’t even mind having it for lunch for the next couple of days.

3. My November Ipsy Glam Bag was sort of a disappointment.

November Ipsy Glam BagThe Products:

it Cosmetics: Bye Bye Under Eye Concealer

This stuff is powerful, I put too much on my hand before putting it under my eyes and I was convinced it would never come off. I suppose that’s a good trait in a concealer though right?

SeaRX: Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion

I could go either way on this lotion, I put it on after washing my face and while it burned a bit (negative) I also noticed my face didn’t dry out over night (positive).

J Cat Beauty: Wonder Lip Paint

No. No. No. I suppose I could use this for a Halloween face painting costume but otherwise it’s a bit too much for my liking.

Marc Anthony: Oil of Morocco Argan Oil Volume Shine Hairspray

I wanted to love this stuff because it smelled amazing and was the perfect travel size but it left my hair feeling dry and didn’t keep the fly aways down.

Starlooks Cosmetics: Eye Pencil

I think I would like this in another color, olive isn’t really my thing but it was subtle enough that I would keep it in the make up bag.

I really liked September’s glam bag, last month was okay but this month just didn’t fit. At $10 a month it’s not exactly breaking the bank but I do hope the next couple months are better!

4. Tuesday night bowling is a necessary stress relief.

Tuesday Night BowlingI like bowling and I’m not afraid to admit it. $10 for 3 games and shoes? Yes, please!

5. The Growler Garage is a must visit.

Growler GarageThe Growler Garage has been on my to do list for quite some time now and with guests coming into town last weekend we finally pulled it off. It was a really cool building with lots of fun touches I mean table bases made from tires, that’s just plain awesome. Of course most importantly there was a great craft beer list to choose for tastings, I was a really big fan of the Veridian IPA from Banded Horn Brewery Company.  As the name implies you can have growlers filled right there and the other half of the store is a retail store with all sorts of beer from around the world. I said before, you must go check it out if you are ever in the Burlington area.

Fun Facts Friday

It’s that time again! I am so pumped about the fact that it is already the weekend 🙂

1. Thursday’s are Can and a Dog for $5 at Citizen Cider and everyone MUST check it out.

Citizen Cider at GMLMy office building is right down the street and for the last couple of Thursday’s the work crew and I have been hitting up the deck of Citizen Cider to enjoy a delicious cider and dog all for the lovely price of $5! Also, don’t let the ketchup and mustard fool you, the topping options for the dogs are unbelievable!

2. If you use Tarte’s BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer you will get compliments.

BB tinted treatment 12-hour primer SPF 30

You guys know my feelings on this stuff already but if you need more proof, here it is. On Sunday I had a guest tell me that I have a beautiful complexion and flawless skin. SAY WHATTT???? Thank you ma’am, but that is in fact a lie! However, I use a great BB cream and it literally holds up for hourrrsss as I applied it at 7am and was complimented 8 hours later. Do yourselves a favor here friends!

3. The Daily Planet is a great spot for date night.

The Daily Planet at GMLWe went on a double date last night to try out the new menu updates and we had a really good time. The food itself was very delicious we shared the Chicken Croquettes (basically chicken balls dipped in buffalo sauce) and they were soooo good! I had the Spinach and Artichoke Ravioli for my main meal and while it was great I will say the prices for the portions definitely missed the mark. They still have my favorite specialty drinks in Burlington though, the Havana never disappoints!!

4. Orange Leaf saves lives.

Orange Leaf on GMLThis may not be an actual fact BUT hey maybe it is? Salted caramel and brownie batter for the win!

5. I have finished the first 4 days of my 15 in 15 Challenge and it feels great!15 in 15 Challenge on GMLI plan to do a more detailed recap of the first 5 days on Sunday but so far it has really been good. I’ve been switching up the styles of yoga and what times I’ve been doing it but so far every day I have practiced for at least 15 minutes and that makes me so happy 🙂

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Do you have a favorite primer/BB cream?

What is your favorite frozen yogurt topping?

Have you hit any fitness goals lately?

Fun Facts Friday

I shared all the stuff in my personal life yesterday so today I will turn these fun facts into 5 things I really need/want to try…

1. I need to try one of these Mango Green Tea Smoothies from A Spicy Perspective

Mango Smoothie with Green Tea! #smoothie #greentea

Have you guys ever used tea in your smoothies? I don’t think I have but I love mango and I drink Numi Gunpowder Green at work everyday so I’m very intrigued. Definitely on my to do list!

2. I need this print off of Etsy to go up in my house ASAP

Rocky Top Graphic Print - 11" x 17" Digital

It’s the truth people, it’s the truth. Also, can anyone else spend hours at a time on Etsy? The things people come up with are absolutely amazing!

3. I need this Nike pullover for my cooler weather runs

Nike Reflective Element Half-Zip Women's Running Top

Or perhaps a cheaper version? Now that fall is right around the corner I will definitely need to up my game on running gear.  Those 5 year old shorts and over-sized shirt just won’t cut it in Vermont’s fall season.

4. I would like to try a rowing class at Row VT

With that said, I am also terrified of a rowing class as I feel like my arms would fall off after 4 minutes. I don’t know about you but my arms are straight up noodles!  According to the schedule they offer a few different styles of class one of which includes mat work which I feel like I would enjoy. I do love me a challenge so I definitely intend on checking them out!

5. Self-Explanatory

Ain't no telling whats gonna come out next lol

That my friends, is a real fact.

Have you ever taken a rowing class?

Any runners out there with a favorite fall weather clothing item?

Fun Facts Friday

I am still training for that little old half marathon, even though I haven’t done a Training Day post in a couple of weeks. Next week I’ll get an update out, I promise!

On to the fun facts for the week!

1. My Fantasy Football team “Eric’s Berries” is absolutely going to CRUSH this league.

Eric's Berries

As you know I am a college football girl through and through, however I do love me some NFL. Even better? I LOVE my former Volunteers in the NFL. At the bar on Sundays during the season, my friends pepper me with “where did they go to school?”

This year my fantasy football team is named after Kansas City Chief’s 5th overall draft pick in 2010 (and you guessed it, former Tennessee stand out) Eric Berry. This year the “Berries” which I will of course refer to the team as from here on out, are freaking stacked. I mean AP AND Cordarelle Patterson?? Game. Over.

2. If you are looking for seafood in Burlington, you must go to Bleu Northeast Seafood. Bleu   Oh man what a way to spend an anniversary meal. Bleu opened recently and I still had not tried it so off we went. We started off with one of my favorite new drinks (that I of course forgot to take a photo of) the Garden Tonic. “House infused cucumber Vodka, lemon juice, honey simple syrup, celery bitters with cucumber, mint, thyme, and lime , topped off with tonic water.” AMAZING.

The gave us the best seat in the house- we must know people or something 😉 Our meal began sharing the Blue & Greens salad which the kitchen so generously split for us (they must have known we don’t share well) and for main course I got the Cedar Roasted salmon pictured above. I substituted the potato salad for their cheddar mashed potatoes because when given the option I will always choose cheddar mashed potatoes.

BleuZach tried the Steak Frites and loved every bite.  When the plates were served he made it a point to tell me “You can even eat the flowers on top!” Love that guy.  Overall it was a great experience, I am so happy we went!

3. Scavenger hunts are the coolest.

I got home from work on Wednesday to find a scavenger hunt waiting for me through the living room and kitchen. Here were some of my favorite clues…

Iced TeaI love Peyton and I love iced tea. This kid knows me.

Charleston ChewsCharleston Chews and Rory? Keep it coming…

BackI appreciate that he censored himself on this one haha… who says fudging??

4. I FINALLY bought the perfect dresses for the wedding we are attending next weekend in Connecticut.

The couple were gracious enough to invite me along to the rehearsal dinner (out of town girlfriend of a groomsman, you know the drill) which meant I had to find a dress for that as well. Had to is a stretch but still, I wanted to 😉

So yesterday I stopped in to Francesca’s and found this lovely dress for 40% off final sale in addition to 10% off with my student ID. That means $23.00 folks! I think it will be perfect for the rehearsal dinner. I actually saw the dress on La Petite Fashionista’s adorable blog before I walked into the store and I absolutely love what she did to style it! Be sure to check it out!!!

Francesca'sAlso, I was really hoping I would find it online to do the dress justice but instead you will just have to take this dirty mirrored selfie that was only meant to go to the best friend for opinion.

I’ll keep the dress I found for the wedding itself to myself for now but just know, I typically hate shopping online for dresses but Lily Boutique I freaking love you!

5. Tarte BB Tinted Treatment 12-Hour Primer is my new best friend.

Tarte BB Cream via Sephora $35.00

I’ve been in search of a good BB cream for awhile now and I may have met my match. It feels amazing on the skin, blends so well and actually covers amazingly. Plus a little goes a long way which makes the price totally worth it. According to the lovely lady at Sephora, this BB cream plus a little loose powder and you’re good to go!

Happy Weekending Friends!

Do you fantasy football?

What is your go to cocktail?

Do you prefer in store shopping or online?

Fun Facts Friday

“It’s finally Friday I’m free again
I got my motor running for a wild weekend!”

Yes, I did just start this post with some George Jones lyrics… welcome to my life. I’m not cool.

1. Sangha Studio in downtown Burlington is my new favorite yoga studio.

Studio  If you read my last post you know I signed up for my first class in quite some time yesterday and it did not disappoint! In Colorado I had a yoga instructor through the school’s gym that I thought was amazing.  She was so patient but very focused on the words she used and knew exactly how to get you into that yogi mindset.  Yesterday at Sangha Studio’s 12pm Flow Yoga class I felt that exact same connection to the style as well as the instructor.  The music started out very traditionally and then it progressively got more hip-hop focused, a first for me in a yoga class but I absolutely loved it!  I wondered if the other lady that attended the class enjoyed it because it was definitely a different soundtrack than what is expected but at the end even she said it was great!

Sadly the instructor for that day was a fill in and does not normally teach any classes. I was super bummed that I didn’t get her name because I really did enjoy her style of teaching but oh well I’m looking forward to many more classes at Sangha. Bonus each class is only $10 AND on Sundays they do community yoga where each class offered is by donation. Definitely check it out 🙂

2. I could eat a sandwich at every meal and be perfectly happy.

Mirabelle'sAh yes, the beloved Mirabelles’ sandwich. So happy you made it into my stomach yesterday.  I normally reserve a trip to Mirabelles for their amazing chocolate macarons but post yoga class I decided I need something more substantial (in addition to the chocolate macarons of course) and this Avocado and Cheddar sandwich was awesome.

Seriously though, we have a sign in our kitchen that I made that just says “We eat a lot of sandwiches…”

3. 9 mile bike rides with these peeps are tough.

Zach, Dad and IOf course I’m talking… when am I not?

We hopped on to the bike path last night after work to head to my parent’s camp in Mallets Bay and it was a great windy summer evening for it. I wore my vans instead of sneakers because I’m a total rookie and I paid for it. Hello slipping and shin pain.

4. Handwritten notes are the best.

NotesHow cute are these? They were a dollar at Michael’s a few months ago and I love them.  Who doesn’t love getting a handwritten note? I’ve been trying to get better about sending thank you notes and it certainly helps when I’ve got these adorable suckers sitting on my desk.

5. I’m happy it is still summer but I can’t wait for fall boots!

This is the best ever!

Durham Boot $39.95

This is the best ever!

Barnes Boot $69.95

I’m sort of in love with JustFab! So far the two pairs of shoes I’ve purchased from there have received so many compliments and are holding up great for as inexpensive as they are. While I’m sad to see summer coming to a close I’m oddly excited about fall fashion. Time to start shopping now 🙂

Got a good fun fact?
Are you good about writing thank you notes?

What’s your favorite season to dress for?
